Our Victorian floor tiles used in a garden design, covered by Love your Garden ITV1 programme
On the 29th July at 8pm on ITV 1 in the program. "Love Your Garden", Alan Titchmarsh will focus on the original garden created by the designer Zaki Elia for his house in Muswell Hill .
It is a Moorish style garden constructed from coloured quarry tiles, in a series of ascending octagonal terraces,
the top terrace is crowned with an exotic shed.
The design seeks to extend the Orientalist features of his Edwardian house into the garden, by using quarry tiles in bold geometric patterns reminiscent of Middle Eastern courtyards.
Olde English Tiles were chosen because they are frost resistant and because of their strong vibrant colours,
Zaki explains why he was so keen to use Olde English Tiles,
“I thought it would be interesting to use the same kind of Victorian floor tiles which are laid inside the house’s main entrance, but for the garden they had to be fully vitrified and frost resistant, Olde English Tiles met that criteria as well as having the nicest colour range. I especially liked the blue tile which was very important to me since my design was inspired by the Garden Of Eden ,
The blue tiles radiating in four directions from the central fountain, symbolise the four rivers flowing outwards from the Garden of Eden”
The garden will also be open to the public under the National Garden Scheme on Sunday July 31st. from 2-6pm.
Zaki gained a Masters degree in graphic design from the RCA in London and for the last eight years he has specialized in landscape garden design having previously enjoyed a successful career as a corporate brand designer, one of his most famous commissions being the design of the Fanta soft drink bottle.
